History of the Palmetto Roost

Announcing the Palmetto Roost Chapter of the AOC
To Our Colleagues:
On behalf of the executive leadership of the Palmetto Roost, we are writing this personal note to inform you that the local chapter of the Association of Old Crows (AOC) has been inaugurated. The Association of Old Crows (AOC) is a not-for-profit international professional association with over 13,500 members and 100+ organizations engaged in the science and practice of Electronic Warfare (EW), Information Operations (IO), and related disciplines. The AOC advocates the need for a strong defense capability emphasizing EW and IO to government, industry, academia, and the public.
In August of 2009, The Palmetto Roost Chapter of the AOC was formed to further the aims, purposes, and programs of the AOC within South Carolina, centered in Charleston. In addition to promoting the exchange of ideas and information related to EW and IO, our chapter encourages original research, the dissemination of new knowledge, the professional development of those engaged in related scientific, engineering, management and operational activities, and to improve public understanding of the profession and its contributions.
The Palmetto Roost is focused on the development of increased capabilities for the technical professional as well as the defense industry in the Charleston area. We have several areas in which we are able to provide and foster opportunities for our local business base. Through the local chapter and its affiliation with the AOC National organization we are concentrating on three immediate fields: education, professional development, and shaping and enabling our National Defense in the EW and IO/Cyber capabilities. With the support of AOC National and our local membership, we will be establishing educational programs, focused conferences and symposia, and business generation.
The AOC maintains an active government relations program allowing industry members to play a key role in shaping the message that the AOC carries to Capitol Hill and the Pentagon. Additionally, the AOC’s annual “Capitol Hill Roundup” provides an opportunity for AOC members to visit Senators, Congressmen, and staffers to influence government policy.
Your business, your employees and your community can benefit from becoming a part of the AOC. Defense professionals and other key players from both the public and private sectors rely on information straight from industry experts involved in the latest advanced technology initiatives. Participating in AOC activities provides an opportunity to develop data on foreign technology programs related to EW and IO. Organizations such as SPAWAR Atlantic in Charleston are rapidly developing core EW/IO functions and we believe your support and affiliation will allow us to meet our goals and objectives while strengthening the coalition of industry and government, and increasing SPAWAR’s exposure to the defense electronics marketplace.
We encourage you, your organization, and your employees to attend our monthly meetings. AOC membership, whether individual or industry, can ensure your company’s visibility before a targeted audience and enhance your corporate image, while establishing a more knowledgeable staff that are better able to meet the needs of your customers. Detailed information regarding meetings, industry partners, and membership can be found on our website: https://www.palmettoroost.org/.
